Plait Hairstyle

Earlier in the year I drew a girl from behind, wearing one of my favourite hairstyles, which can be found here: 'Twirl Hairstyle' by Shiloh Moore August 2016

I wanted to try again to draw a girl, this time with a plait.  I added a red bow as I loved wearing ribbons in my hair when I was young and had long hair (and scrunchies - it was the 80's/early 90's!)  These are two of my favourite hairstyles for long hair.  In my dreams, when I am healthy, I have long hair (I had to have my  waist-length hair cut off aged 14 due to the pain it caused with Fibromyalgia. Even tying shorter hair back or wearing a headband hurts - to this day, so I have had very short hair since.)  I love long hair and I associate it with my childhood - a happy time when I was healthier.

Shi Selfie Portrait

'Shi Selfie Portrait - Collage'

Pitt Pen and Watercolour on Paper

I wanted to do a new self portrait.  I photocopied a selfie and traced the outline with a Pitt Pen.  Then I wanted to do more detail, so I painted it with green watercolour.  I liked how the two went together and decided to do a Pop-Art style collage of the portrait in different colours.  But I thought I might do something different, so instead of painting four identical pictures, for the final image I took a selfie close up of my eye when laughing and painted that in purple.

dash-hound

I was looking at a present a friend gave me, a 'Puppy Pen' - a pen in the shape of a Dachshund.  I love it.  As I was looking at it, the word 'dash-hound' came to me and I thought this would be fun to draw!

So I drew the word 'dash-hound' with a dashing-dachshund drawn to illustrate the 'dash' in the middle.

What fun!

Sending Spoons - I Hope You Are AWAP

'Sending Spoons'

8"x10" Zentangle Pitt Pen and Paper Collage

This card is a Zentangle Collage called ‘Sending Spoons,’ for my friends with chronic illness.

There is an analogy used to describe life with chronic illness by Christine Miserandino called 'The Spoon Theory.' (read in full here: 'The Spoon Theory' written by Christine Miserandino for www.butyoudontlooksick.com )  Christine has Lupus, but many with a variety of chronic illnesses and 'invisible' disabilities identify with it, and affectionately refer to themselves as 'Spoonies.'

In her analogy, spoons symbolise energy (also pain threshold.)  A person with chronic illness only has a certain amount of energy per day, so only a few spoons.  Every task takes a certain number of spoons.  Often, you don't know how many spoons you will have throughout each day so you must be wise with how you spend them.  If there's something you have to do that day, you must keep enough spoons for the task. You might have to give up doing something else in order to have enough energy to do what you need to do.  You learn to prioritise what you spend your ‘spoons’ on.

Many with chronic illness also use a phrase to sign off messages with - 'I hope you are AWAP'.  AWAP stands for 'As Well As Possible'.

So I came up with this pic 'Sending Spoons' using Zentangle patterns on spoons, with the phrase 'I HOPE U R AWAP.'

(I also like how there's 5 horizontal spoons, so to me, I also see a mini musical staff!  Energy is musical!)

Thanks for using your spoons to read this.  Sending you spoons, and I hope you are AWAP!

Movember Pug

To go into the running to win the original artwork ‘Movember Pug,’ simply donate to my Movember page:
No donation is too small or too big!

A charity I care about is Movember, which raises money for Men's Health (for Prostate cancer, Testicular cancer, and Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in particular.)

Obviously as a chronically ill woman, I support Women's Health charities.  I also care about men. Suicide is now the leading cause of death for men in Australia between the ages of 15 and 44.  Each day, on average 6 men in Australia take their lives.  This is alarming. A common attitude for men is to 'suck it up' and 'be a man.'  This charity encourages men to care about their health and seek help if needed.

For Movember, on the first of November men shave, and throughout the month they grow a moustache.  Instead of growing a mo, I am going to donate the original artwork ‘Movember Pug,’ and send it to one lucky person who donates to my Movember page, selected randomly.’

‘Movember Pug,’ was drawn from a sticker by Typo (shown below made into a card).  Then I added a mo!  I chose a pug, as they have such sad eyes.  I made this one smile a little but you can see his vulnerability in his eyes.

It takes strength to admit you're not ok, and it takes courage to do something about it.

If you need to talk to someone, you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

My friends are amazing and love to just 'hang' around, 'doing' nothing but enjoying each other's company.

A bit like a couple sloths.

This is for you.  Thank you.  I love just hanging with you.

Yin Yang Bear Hug

'Yin Yang Bear Hug'
© 2016 by Shiloh Moore
In July 2016 I saw a photo of a black and a white cat creating a heart with their tails, which inspired my drawing 'Yin Yang Love Cats.'   I then went on to draw black and white birds creating a yin yang symbol, in the post 'Yin Yang Birdies.'  (Click the links to see my previous posts)

A year ago I bought an awesome t-shirt on Threadless,  'Huggers' by freehand.dk (click here to see it)  It has a white bear hugging a black bear, using the black negative space of the t-shirt for the black bear.  I think it's incredibly clever.

Recently a young friend, Sophie wore that same shirt in her smaller size - so cute! It reminded me how much I love the image, and inspired me to draw a similar bear hug, but using the bears to create a Yin Yang symbol.

So 'Yin Yang Bear Hug' was born!
