Another dear friend visits regularly and always brings me sushi and a coke zero.  Her beverage of choice is Diet Coke and she has a beloved pet Siamese Cat called Oliver.  Oliver sits in the strangest positions and she once sent me this photo of him lounging around which I thought was hilarious (and my bro thinks he looks like a kangaroo - which my friend agreed to!)

So here is Oliver lounging around sipping on a Diet Coke.  This was so much fun to make!

'Laugh, Love, Live' - Colouring In

I woke from a dream saying the words 'laugh, love, live'.  I love those words!  So I drew them in a way you can colour in.

A wonderful friend has visited once a month for many years, and always brings me a cappuccino.  His beverage of choice is a Strong Long Black.  Earlier this year he got a pet Staffy puppy called Scout and excitedly brought Scout to visit.  Scout promptly peed on my couch, but other than that he was adorable!  Scout's grown up a lot now, but I wanted to draw him from my photo of him in his youth.  In my pic he's wearing a beret because my friend wore a beret to his formal!

I was recently browsing Pinterest and found a number of gorgeous line drawings by several artists, of women, of which I especially loved their hair.  So I looked up a favourite hairstyle I used to love when I had longer hair, and drew it using that style. Beauty!

thank you birdies

'thank you birdies'
© 20-27 April 2016 by Shiloh Moore
5"x5" Pitt Pen and Watercolour on Paper

This is the second 'Thank You' card I finished on the 27th April.  I love simplified birdies and used rainbow colours to bring them alive.  Note the green one is resting and doing its own thing, backwards to all the other brightly alert birdies.  No prizes for guessing which birdie I identify with!

I include the green resting birdie, who is cared for by all the other birds who let her join in, and note the rainbow wouldn't be complete without her.  It's a thank you card for all who look after me and let me join in, and for all those other green birdies out there, you are an important part of the rainbow!

Irritable Owl Syndrome

A friend asked me to draw an owl that looks grumpy to make a card for a friend with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).  They joke around and call it 'Irritable Owl Syndrome' and she wanted me to make a card from it.  I came up with this :)

Tropical Toucan

8x10" White Oil Pastel and Watercolour on paper

I love the colours of a toucan!  This image brings me much joy.  You can buy prints and products from this and many other artworks on Redbubble here

Update:  a friend asked how I made 'Tropical Toucan'.  Here's a guide:

1) First I drew the outline in pencil, then traced it with white oil pastel, using a light box to make it easier.  The light box also gave enough light to be able to see where the white oil pastel was on the white paper.

2) Then using bright watercolours, (I use the watercolour blocks, you can use tubes too) I filled in the colour.  I used watercolour brush pens - I find them easier to control and use than ordinary brushes.

I find watercolour is a great medium as you don't have to press hard like pencils.  And you are forced to 'pace' - I would sit up long enough to do one colour at a time, then lie down between colours, as if you do two colours at a time that are next to each other, they tend to run.  So it takes some time and patience, but is less strenuous than sitting up and doing too much all at once.

Dotty Owls

5 x 7" Ink Stamps and Pitt Pen on Paper

Using the same design for an owl as used in 'What A Hoot', and the idea of drawing creatures from ink spots used in 'Dotty Creatures', I came up with this rainbow column of Owls.
