Love Harp!

I made this piece as a gift for a special someone who plays the harp, and for her harp loving friends.  It is a line drawing of a person playing a harp simplified into a love heart shape, with the words 'Love Harp!' forming the strings.  I did another version especially for her with the harp strings forming her name. Love harp, love you!

Rock n Soul

This was a Christmas gift for a special couple who love skulls and skeletons.  It is of a hand making the 'rock n roll' hand sign, juxtaposed with a butterfly to add colour and life, and to symbolise the soul.  They both live and breathe music, and it is in their bones.  I'm sure they will rock on for eternity. Love you both!

'We R Okay'

'We R Okay'

Metallic Bic Mark-It Pen on Black 5x5" Paper

My beautiful friend Rebekah has a birthday in December.  I made this artwork for her using symbols of our friendship.

I was reading about Typography and making artwork out of words.  One exercise was to create from negative space.

I chose the letter 'R' for Rebekah.  Then I thought of words that illustrate our friendship.  When I'm well enough, we love watching movies together.  She has shared 2 of her favourite films with me: 'The Perks Of Being A Wallflower' and 'The Fault in Our Stars.'

Two of her all-time favourite quotes are from 'The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.'  They are "We accept the love we think we deserve" and "(and in that moment) I swear we were infinite."  The whole of the second quote did not fit so I shortened it.  In the movie, Charlie loves to give thoughtful presents and he goes to great lengths to give something meaningful.  This is something Rebekah also loves to do, and what I was doing in making this present!

The second film quote is "Okay" from 'The Fault In Our Stars.'  This has extra meaning for me, as when I was bedridden aged 16 I said a mantra 'I am ok.  I. a.m. o....k...' to calm my mind to ease the constant headache.  So when the main characters used the work 'Okay' as their special word, I loved it, and identified.

So I made an R out of those three quotes.  Afterwards, I realised the words placed at the bottom of the 'R' were both 'We.'  Then it takes the shape of the letter 'R'.  Then the space in the letter 'R' makes the word 'Okay'.  'We R Okay.'  This was the message I wanted to give Rebekah to give her strength in the tough times.

 Happy birthday Rebekah!

Zentangle Part 3: Tenterfield Terrier

30 May - 24 June 2015
Pitt Pens and Derwent Pencils on Watercolour paper, on Scrapbooking Paper Background

For my third effort at Zentangle I was ambitious, I wanted to do a portrait in memory of my beloved pooch!  I wanted to give it as a gift, so the pressure was on to do it justice. Here's the photo of my beloved:

I did the outline the same day as the outlines of my previous posts, 'Zentangle Daschund', and 'Zentangle Dove' (30th May 2015.)

I had both a brown and a black Pitt Pen to do the doodling on her face, so I photocopied my outline and roughly scribbled in the areas to be shaded black and brown.

Then I took a couple weeks off as my arms were in extreme Fibromyalgia pain from the drawing I had done (my arms are always sore but this spurt of artwork had really flared it again.)

When I could, I looked at other zentangle and zen doodles online and in a book, for ideas as to my favourite styles of doodling, and ones that may look good and were appropriate for my pooch!

Then I could contain my pacing/resting/art ban no longer and decided to start doodling.  I worked on it for a few days 20-24th June and before I knew it, it was finished!

Here's a progress pic when I had started doodling:
