Love Heart Owls

8"x10" Pitt Pen and Posca Marker on Paper

At the beginning of September I was browing Pinterest.  I saw an amazing photo of owls made into a love heart shape (below:)  I reverse image searched to try to find the amazing artist/illustrator, but unfotunately I could not find an original source to reference.

When I looked at the image from Pinterest, I could see my heart owl could be adapted to fit 2 owls into a heart shape using a similar design.

Firstly I did a watercolour of the image: (below.)  I was not entirely happy with this, but as I was looking at it, I could see that it may be more effective to use the Paisley pattern used in the 'Paisley Heart Thanks Owl', so today I drew the top image above, of the 'Paisley Love Heart Owls.'

Using the same outline of an owl that I used for 'What a Hoot',  and 'Dotty Owls'  I drew the owl with white oil pastel, then added the colour with watercolours, sprinkling it with rock salt while it was still wet.  Once dry, I removed the rock salt and this gave the coloured areas their pattern.  Then I added the black for the eyes and around the beak/nose (weird question: does an owl have a beak or a nose or a snout?!!!)  Then she was done!

Irritable Owl Syndrome

A friend asked me to draw an owl that looks grumpy to make a card for a friend with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).  They joke around and call it 'Irritable Owl Syndrome' and she wanted me to make a card from it.  I came up with this :)

You can buy prints, and products with this image and other artworks on them at my Redbubble site here.

Using the same design for an owl as used in 'What A Hoot', and the idea of drawing creatures from ink spots used in 'Dotty Creatures', I came up with this rainbow column of Owls.

Paisley Heart Thanks Owl

6"x6" Posca Markers on Paper

When I completed 'Hypnotic Heart Owl' (see here) I could see the drawing of the owl I used looked like a Paisley pattern.  I've been wanting to make thank you cards, so I decided to make a design I could use using the owl in a Paisley pattern.  I recently bought new small Posca Markers in Black, Blue, Green and Pink, so I used them.

After I finished the thank you card design (above) I saw the pink around the heart-face could also be used with curves like the rest of the body, and I also wanted to draw the owl larger, on its own without the word 'thanks,' so I redrew it (below:)

8"x10" Pastel and Watercolour on Paper

I was trying to sleep and a quick sketch of a heart faced Owl came to mind.

I wanted to experiment with watercolours and pastels.  I first drew the owl using white oil pastel seen below, then put a layer of bright watercolours over it.

Heart Of An Aussie Owl

December 2015
Pitt Pen on Watercolour Paper

I sell (and give away) cards I've made from cardstock, scrapbooking materials and stickers.  In October a friend wanted an owl card (of which I had many!) but he did not want a 'horned' owl or owl with heavy eyebrows - 'they're American.  I want an Aussie Owl!'

Of course all the scrapbooking materials I can find only have 'horned' or 'heavy browed' owls.  So I looked at Australian Owls at www.owlpages.com and fell in love with their almost heart shaped faces.  So bit by bit throughout December 2015 I drew my own version of an Aussie Owl.

This was the evolution of my drawing.

May the heart, the essence, the wisdom, the power and the beauty of an Aussie Owl be with you :)

May this owl welcome you to the New Year.

I have a precious friend who loves owls and who wears the coolest glasses.  I wanted to dedicate an owl to her.  I don't know if she knits, but this owl felt like knitting.   So SarBear, this one's for you xx

'Circle of Life'

'Circle of Life' A4 Watercolour on paper, (c) 2012 by Shiloh Moore

This image has been bubbling in my mind for months. It has been begging to be created. I drew it with Pitt Pen while lying down, then worked on it with watercolours sitting up for short spurts, then resting in between. I imagined a curvaceous tree at the heart of a circle of life, home to a wise owl, a bird, a lizard, a spider with its web. Surrounded on the ground by flowers, a deer, butterflies and a dragonfly in the air, all being enjoyed by a little girl with pigtails on a swing. Innocence, life, beauty, joy, nature. Happiness.

Owl In Flight

I saw a photo of an owl in flight and loved it but couldn't keep it, so I did a quick sketch to remember it. This is what it first looked like.

Then I played with it some more and tried it with different background colours to make cards. These are the results:

Thank You Owl

This year I have crafted many cards with owl designs. The owl cards seem to be the most popular - many people seem to love and collect owls! At first I made them for the demand, but now I've fallen in love with the gorgeous creatures and I enjoy drawing and painting my own.

At the end of this year (2011) I painted this 'Thank you' owl, which I made into cards for all the wonderful friends, doctors and support networks who have given me lifts and practical support throughout the year.

More so than that I would like to thank all my friends and family for being here for me in any capacity. Coffees, catchups, emails, letters, cards, facebook, phonecalls, texts, and simply knowing you're there for me makes my life so fulfilling. I am incredibly grateful and I painted this for you all.

So, thank you!
